Vegetarian Shoes | Vegan Shoes

VEGETARIAN SHOES are undoubtedly among the pioneers in the world of vegan, leather-free shoes. In business since 1990, there's probably no other manufacturer that offers such a broad range of footwear. Whether sneakers or combat boots, sturdy hiking boots or elegant pumps – at VEGETARIAN SHOES, almost everyone will find what they're looking for. In addition, there's a constantly growing selection of belts and bags, and the company's own care products, which are specifically tailored to the needs of synthetic upper materials, are rightly enjoying great popularity.

But it all started much smaller. Company founder Robin Webb, a self-taught shoemaker, was inspired by the idea of producing high-quality shoes without leather. Two discoveries were crucial to his journey. Firstly, he was fascinated to hear that in parts of Africa, due to a lack of other raw materials, old car tires were being processed into shoe soles. Secondly, he happened upon a synthetic microfiber that was primarily used for seat covers on yachts. Not only did the material look and feel strongly like leather, it was also breathable and – as is necessary on a yacht – extremely robust.

Webb was convinced he had stumbled upon something great, and his success quickly proved him right. Demand soon grew so great that he, who had initially made each shoe himself by hand, could no longer keep up with production. So he switched to having the shoes manufactured in factories in England, as well as in Portugal, Spain, and Italy.

And yet, Webb and VEGETARIAN SHOES have remained true to themselves. They still rely on environmentally friendly raw materials, sustainable production, and fair working conditions, and they still operate their business from a small shop in Brighton's famous Lanes. Good shoes don't need leather. That's what VEGETARIAN SHOES has proven to the world—and continues to prove it every day.
