8000kicks has done it: the Portuguese brand has created vegan hemp sneakers that are waterproof, PFC-free, yet breathable. The idea to make shoes from hemp came to founder Bernardo late at night (or probably early in the morning) with his friends and after a few beers and smokes. Fortunately, it didn't just stay an idea. Bernardo asked his grandmother Otilia, who has over 50 years of experience working with a wide variety of textiles, for advice – and promptly made her co-founder of 8000kicks! Together, they worked with suppliers from all over the world for over a year until they developed the world's first waterproof hemp shoe that met all their requirements.
